Elysian Park, giclee print, 40″ x 60″ 2005

Large format, composited digital image appropriating famous war documentary photographs staged by the US military.  The three characters, the collaborators of Fallen Fruit, climb a cliff above the city of Los Angeles.  Equipped with hoses and dirt they carry fruit trees towards the viewer, as if arriving to liberate public space, but with shovels rather than guns and fruit trees in place of flags.  Their expressions and theatricality call into question the authenticity of image making, our relationship to propaganda and media, as well as the possibility of finding liberty through public fruit.
